Chapter 73 – A Journey of Resilience, Navigating Life’s Twists and Turns

It’s been a while since I shared updates on my health journey, and a lot has happened since July 2023. From celebrating my 30th anniversary with a rejuvenating road trip through France, Spain, and Portugal to returning to work and reconnecting with colleagues in The Hague, London, Houston, and Austin, life has been a mix of adventure and familiar faces.

In this blog series, I’ve chronicled the highlights of our incredible honeymoon redo, filled with gastronomic delights and cultural exploration. Traveling with Isabelle has been a true joy, and revisiting places like The Hague and Houston brought back a sense of normalcy, allowing for face-to-face interactions with colleagues and the enjoyment of quality work.

However, life has its challenges, and one significant moment was bidding farewell to our son heading to Baton Rouge for a 5-month study stint at Louisiana State University (LSU). On a brighter note, having our oldest son back for Christmas brought warmth and togetherness to our family.

Yet, amidst the seemingly smooth journey, the reality hits hard. Despite being back to work and reducing physiotherapy sessions, the road to recovery is long. Walking is still a work in progress, and sensibility on my left side remains elusive. To aid this journey, a decision has been made – enter a new companion, a dog. A Basset Hound, to be precise, tasked with the responsibility of encouraging regular walks and perhaps helping manage sugar levels.

Speaking of sugar levels, the battle with diabetes continues. Despite challenges, a positive note came from the cardiologist, assuring that all is well, with the next visit slated for January 2025. This gives a glimmer of hope amid the struggles with diabetes, a battle that the Basset Hound seems ready to take on with a wagging tail.

As I navigate these health challenges, I find solace in the support of my job, a source of strength aiding my recovery. Looking ahead, uncertainty looms about the future, with health becoming a crucial factor in decision-making. The coming year holds promise for continued learning and understanding, but the path forward remains unclear.

In the face of these uncertainties, I trust in luck to guide me toward the right opportunities. Life is a journey, and resilience remains the key as I balance the challenges of health with the joys of work and family. The journey continues, and I’m hopeful for what lies ahead.
